B the end of September, 2011, shortly before an exhibition of National association of business aircraft of the USA of NBAA in Las Vegas, the American company Cessna has presented to the public a business jet of the easy class Citation Cessna Citation M2. Derivative of CJ1+ with the improved characteristics and the smaller price label, this model is urged to fight with Embraer Phenom 100 for the place in an easy segment, and also to give to current owners of Citation Mustang an attractive opportunity of transition to the following level of speed, range and comfort.

Development of Sq.m was conducted for the last three years, and the first flight has taken place on March 9, 2012. Deliveries of the existing range Cessna Citation have had the most crushing blow during the depression in the market of business jets of an easy class which has begun three years ago. If in 2008 Cessna has broken a ten-year record, having put 466 airplanes of Citation family, then in 2009 the number of deliveries has fallen to 289, and in 2010 – to 178. Judging by indicators of the first half of the year, this year the company will transfer to customers of 138 Citation.

Demand for the CJ1+ model, the predecessor of Sq.m has most strongly suffered. In 2008 Cessna has put 20 units, in the 2009th – 14, in the 2010th – 3. For the first six months of the current year only one CJ1+ has been put. The failures which have fallen down the American producer have fallen just on that time when the main competitor, Embraer, in several impressive courses has subdued the market of easy business jets, having enticed many of those clients who could buy CJ1+. Phenom 100 put into operation in December, 2008 has eclipsed the rival bolshy salon at similar useful loading and excellent range. And it cost initially only 500 thousand dollars more expensive, than Mustang, and on the whole 1,2 million is cheaper, than CJ1+. Thanks to such comparison exposing Phenom 100 to the best advantage its sales have soared up into heaven.

Phenom 100 fuselage section, the onboard Garmin G1000 complex and exclusive fuel efficiency, innovative, oval in width, have drawn attention of customers at once. Until the end of 2008 Embraer has put two such airplanes, in 2009 – 97, in the 2010th – 100. However, after two years there has come outflow: for the first half of the year of the current year the number of deliveries of Phenom 100 has not exceeded dozen. Cessna has apprehended present calm in deliveries of Phenom 100 as the ideal moment for a revenge. Having announced Sq.m, the producer expects to return the share of the market, having offered the model capable to compete with the Brazilian competitor.

Though the Cessna Citation M2 salon by the size does not differ from CJ1+ salon, ascent speed at it is higher, cruiser speed is 11 nodes more, range with useful loading of 230 kg (at management of one pilot) has to make 1300 nautical miles. The price of Cessna Citation M2 is established at the level of 4,195 million dollars, and the producer will give the first 47 airplanes for 4 million as Scott Earnest promised. Thus, the Sq.m will cost buyer about 285 thousand dollars dearer, than Phenom 100, compensating a difference in cost by the best runway characteristics, higher (on 35 nodes) cruiser speed and bigger (on 100 nautical miles) range. By the way, Cessna gives values of range at the rate of the maximum cruiser speed, and Embraer – proceeding from the maximum range that means flight on the smaller modes of draft. Moreover, the new representative of Citation family offers more attractive set of the standard equipment, than Phenom 100 and the list of the options allowing to increase comfort of stay onboard, is worked out more carefully. Cessna hopes that all these (and others) advantages will allow to distract potential buyers from Embraer.

One more important mission of Cessna Citation M2 – to hold “in a family” Cessna of owners of Mustang. Judging by the provided documentation Cessna, the design of Cessna Citation M2 will be CJ1+ clone – at least, fuselage parameters will not change in any way. Designers of Cessna have decided not to apply on Sq.m experience of installation of additional external frames to increase in width of a floor of salon as it has been made on CJ4 as excess 5 cm of a floor would not justify considerable time and financial expenditure on certification of the modified design. The most noticeable innovation – small tips I covered it because of which wing span will increase to 14 m. Some aerodynamic improvements of a glider will allow to reduce resistance at the expense of what, in particular, and it is supposed to increase cruiser speed.

Cessna Citation M2 will leave a little easier than the predecessor, mainly thanks to replacement of the onboard Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 complex by Garmin G3000. However because of increase in fuel tankage by 40 kg useful loading with full tanks will decrease a little (approximately by 13 kg). All models of a series 525 have round fuselages. In comparison with Phenom 100 fuselage, oval in lateral section, the design with a constant radius easier and more effectively distributes loadings of excessive pressure, but offers less useful space of salon for passengers.

Cessna Citation M2 has kept the high-speed airfoil profile of a laminar flow of NASA 0213 developed in the late eighties for the first of CitationJet families. Engineers assure that the steady flow remains at cruiser speeds to 400 nodes with superfluous. All fuel contains in two wing tanks, each of which is supplied with six fuel level sensors. As well as on the majority of business jets of easy and middle class, fuelling is carried out through a filling mouth on a wing upper surface. Improvements in system of a drainage of tanks allow to increase formatted capacity of tanks by 40 kg in comparison with CJ1+. The system of fuel-cooled oil coolers which is becoming more active automatically excludes need for anti-icing additives. Jet pumps give fuel to engines during their work.

The fuel pumping-up pumps feed engines during start, a cross power supply and in case of refusal jet pumps. Cessna Citation M2 series have allocated with the closed hydraulic system; the left and right motive pumps create pressure of 105,5 kg/cm2 for landing gear extension, air brakes and flaps. For work of system there is enough one pump, any of two. The separate power pumping plant feeds anti-skid system. Unlike Sq.m, Mustang and Phenom 100 have one hydraulic system with the electric pump for all needs. Cessna Citation M2 is supplied with hand control steering surfaces.

Mechanization of a wing consists of flaps, air brakes and a damper of roving which improves quality of flight, but is not necessary for its performance. It is possible to carry system of clearing of lifting force which after a contact releases flaps by 60 degrees to advantages of Cessna Citation M2 and activates the air brake, creating thereby pressure upon the main racks for more effective braking. At Embraer Phenom 100 such system is absent (as well as the air brake) therefore on the contaminated runway it is more difficult to stop it, than Citation. In external lighting, including landing fires, xenon lamps are replaced with LEDs which support function of the “pulsing” fires. At all three models – Cessna Citation M2, Mustang and Phenom 100 – the automatic system of sealing of salon creating on FL410 echelon pressure equivalent to height of 2400 m above sea level. Based on our experience of flights by airplanes of a series 525 and Phenom, we can assume that noise level in Cessna Citation M2 salon it will be notable below, than in Phenom 100 (made until now). In nasal part Cessna Citation M2 there is an unpackaged luggage compartment of 0,42 m3 with access through the swinging open doors from the left and right side. The main baggage can also be placed in the compartment located in the rear of a fuselage of 0,85 m3.

Volumes of luggage carriers of Phenom 100 it is more, than at Sq.m (back – for 50%). Onboard the new full-function control system of parameters of salon (CMS) developed by an example of Citation Ten together with the Heads Up Technologies company has to please passengers. Satellite telephony of Aircell ST 3100, the high-speed channel of data exchange “air-to-ground” of Aircell Gogo, XM radio and a set of the audio-and video equipment, including the slot for connection of MP3-players logs in. Obtaining the certificate like Citation Cessna Citation M2 is planned for the first half of the year 2013, the beginning of deliveries – for the second. Having entered the market, Cessna Citation M2 will immediately meet face to face not only with Phenom 100 (for 4 million dollars), but, perhaps, and with HondaJet (for 4,5 million dollars) if the last is certified, according to the schedule, at the end of 2012.
