For the first time the model of the Bombardier Global Express XRS airplane has been presented on October 6, 2003 during an annual meeting of members of National Association of Business Aircraft (NBAA) to Orlando, the State of Florida. This model submits the improved and extended version of the popular Global 5000 (Global Express) airplane, except increase in the amount of change have concerned the main systems of the airplane and a navigation and flight complex. At the beginning of 2005 the Bombardier company has for the first time carried out flights of Global Express XRS. The batch oriented production of the airplane has begun in 2006.

The airplane has an advanced supercritical wing with an inclination in 35, the Tee tail, and also engines of the BMW RollsRoyce BR-710s company with FADEC. The Bombardier Global Express XRS model allows to fill 798 kg more fuel, than basic Global Express; besides, it has more powerful conditioning system of salon, the big rest area of crew and two additional windows in salon, along with the increased volume at 425 l of baggage compartment. Standard maximum taxi and take-off masses has risen to 49125 and 49000 kg respectively. But operators usually order additional options and the strengthened sound insulation for this airplane. Respectively, the majority of airplanes have the weight of the empty aircraft coming to 26500 kg except for those which correspond to the service bulletin SB 700-11-020 increasing the maximum taxi and take-off weight by 750 kg.

The airplane with the typical equipment is capable to transport 10–11 pass., with completely filled tanks. At a cruiser speed 0,82M the maximum range about the 8th pass. makes 11400 km. But operators claim that the main success brings to the airplane its salon, but not characteristics of flying range. Three departments of salon can take place with comfort 15–16 pass. Many airplanes have a private cabin in a tailpiece of salon, many are equipped with onboard kitchen in front part of salon and practically in all there is the second toilet in front. According to pilots, its operational reliability, cruiser speed, runway characteristics, comfortableness of salon and a pilotsky cabin, quality of feelings are among the best characteristics of the airplane during flight along with impressively low level of noise, small differential pressures in salon and automation of many systems.

Operators declare that the airplane can be operated on the runway 1200 m long (provided that it dry) to carry out flights between any two points in continental part of the USA located approximately at sea level. Most of operators say that XRS raid at them makes 250–450 h/year. Fuel usage in the first hour of flight is equal to 2270 kg, at the same time the airplane under conditions of the standard atmosphere is capable to rise directly to FL410 echelon (12500 m). Smoothness of flight, especially in the conditions of turbulence — one of strengths of this airplane. It has an impressive wing load (47,5 g/cm2) and very flexible power design covered. The airplane overcomes turbulence as the flying Maybach 62. The auxiliary fuel tank which is established on a joint of a wing and a fuselage has allowed to increase flying range to 11 390 kilometers. Non-stop flight can be made, for example, from Los Angeles to Tokyo. In need of refueling one more innovative concept which allows to refuel literally in 15 minutes is provided in the airplane. In Bombardier Global Express XRS controllability and aerodynamic characteristics are much more improved. For half an hour the airplane can gain cruising altitude – 13 100 m. Maximum speed of the liner makes 950 km/h with a flight altitude of 15 545 m.

At the expense of modern sound-insulating materials passengers do not hear excess noise that gives the maximum comfort when flying. It surpasses similar airplanes of other companies in range and flight altitude, for example, the French Falcon 900B.
